“When I write music, I tell stories and that’s what country music is,” said the fiery singer/songwriter Camille Rae. “My lyrics are vulnerable and relatable to most and I never want to compromise my writing to fit a formula.” That statement holds true as Rae continuously captivates her audience with her insightful songwriting and vibrant vocals.
The songstress can perform multiple genres of music, ranging from classical to bluegrass, but finds her artistic home within country music. Originally from Mount Vernon, Ky., Rae has been eager to share her talent since her church performances as a child. At 12 years of age, Rae began to craft her own songs while strumming a six-string. In high school, she performed as a member of the Kentucky All-State choir before earning a degree in Music Education at University of the Cumberlands. Prior to moving to Nashville, Tennessee, Rae spent three years in Vancouver, BC, Canada. She took to live performance and further enhancement of her songwriting before returning to the states in 2012 to fully pursue a solo career as a country music artist. Her musical influences consist of a montage of female powerhouses such as Bessie Smith, Trisha Yearwood, Kelly Clarkson, and fellow redheads Reba McEntire and Wynona Judd; Women who’ve inspired Rae’s primary topic, “the intimate feelings that someone thinks but never speaks aloud.”
In 2015, Rae released her debut album ‘I Need Me’ (Break the Cycle Entertainment) included “Shadows Dance Tonight” which scored the emerging artist her first nationally charted single landing at No. 55 on Nashville’s Music Row Chart and received strong airplay across the United States and Canada. Her presence on the chart positioned Rae as an opening act for notables like The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, David Cook, Maddie and Tae, and more.
Rae continues to harness that red-hot energy with the latest single, “But I Want You,” co-written by Jaida Dreyer, Fred Wilhelm, and Jay Knowles. With a prominent kick-drum, lead banjo riff, and sassy vocal, the track is just a taste of what’s to come with Rae’s future sophomore release. As Rae’s career continues to blossom, she seeks to inspire, encourage, and help others. Her philanthropy efforts include St. Jude’s Children Hospital and organizations in support of music education and victims of domestic violence.
